Christian Aid, West office
Christian Aid is an official agency of the UK and Ireland churches and has its office for the West of England in Thornbury High Street.
We work where the need is greatest, regardless of religion, through local organisations in more than 50 of the world's poorest countries. At home and overseas, Christian Aid campaigns to change the structures that keep people poor, challenging inequality and injustice.
The West office in Thornbury supports the work of hundreds of churches and thousands of volunteers in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire.

Parish Church of St. Mary, Thornbury, with St Paul's, Hackett
We are committed to living God's love for all. This we do through being a Church of England Christian fellowship seeking both to grow in faith and to engage in service with our local community. Our concerns are for the whole of God's creation, and we desire to share our journey of faith with those around us.

On the fourth Sunday of each month there is a Family Service at 9.15am at St Paul’s, a Family Eucharist at 10.45am at St Mary’s, and the evening service is normally Choral Evensong. Other Sunday morning services are Eucharistic, with Sunday School at St Paul’s, and provision for children at St Mary’s. We also have service at 4pm in St Mary’s, on the first and third Sunday of every month. The style of this “4all” service is informal, with modern music and a Christian message, and everyone is warmly welcomed. Kids Praise continues at 4pm on the second Sunday of each month, beginning in February. St Mary’s Church is open every day.

Octopus presents Beauty and the Beast
7-11th January, CTK Church Hall, Castle Street, Thornbury

The Octopus pantomime can always be relied upon to bring a smile to the faces of those who are quick enough and lucky enough to get hold of a ticket. In this latest production the beautiful Belle finds herself trapped in an enchanted castle with a scary beast but with lots of funny characters to keep her company. Meanwhile, the dreadful Gaston and his sidekick Didier are plotting to hunt down the beast and force Belle into a marriage she doesn't want.

Well, the only way to know is come and see the many characters created by the pen of Tony Domaille coping with the dark forest, enchantment, a sly wolf, and Gaston's enormous ego (as well as a boil on his bottom!) Don't miss out on lots of laughs, music, colour and fun for all the family.

St Mary's Church Re-Ordering Update

Since October, the Church Council has been systematically considering aspects of the designs for the re-ordering of the Parish Church, and choosing between the various options suggested by the architects. Each month, these options have been on display, and comments and feedback from church members and other parishioners have been greatly valued.

In February, the intention is to consider proposals for the Organ and the Chancel Arch. These will be available in church and on the website below from 15th February.

With the developments in the proposals, the Diocese has also decided it would be timely to arrange for a meeting of the statutory consultees in the Church to consider the proposals.

That will involve the Church Buildings Council (formerly Council for the Care of Churches), English Heritage, Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, South Gloucestershire Council, Victorian Society, the parish and the Diocesan Advisory Council.

Their guidance, at this stage, will be much appreciated. If you have any comments or queries, please do contact the Vicar directly.
