7.30pm, Armstrong Hall
Thornbury Picture House aims to bring the best of world cinema to Thornbury at affordable prices while avoiding unnecessary trips to out-of-town venues. The 2008/9 season is designed to provoke, entertain, and surprise.
All screening are in the Armstrong Hall at 7.30pm on Friday evenings commencing with the wonderfully evocative and powerful Oscar-winning performance of Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.
The path to musical stardom is usually paved with rags before riches, and so it goes that Olivier Dahan's biopic of French chantreuse Edith Piaf is not shy of a poor-girl-turned-diva plot. Piaf lived a colourful, hectic life and Dahan has created a film to reflect this, but his fractured portrait of the singer is centred on some glorious samples of her music and a stunning performance by Marion Cotillard.
Each film will cost £3 if you become a TPH member for £30. Entrance to individual films will cost £5 if you are not a member.
