Sunday 7th September 2008
Summer Swing at The Chantry
The Chantry, Castle Street, Thornbury

Fancy an afternoon of wonderful live music in a glorious garden setting? Well, look no further, as ACT (Arts and Community in Thornbury) are offering a delightful invitation to people of all ages to spend a Sunday afternoon celebrating the end of Summer in the beautiful garden of Thornbury and District's Community Association.

ACT's exciting project to build a theatre and arts venue in the town is rapidly gaining momentum, having reached its financial target for the last year, so the new season of arts events to raise its profile and demonstrate the huge breadth of original talent in this area will get off to a fantastic start with no less than two exciting local musical groups!

Standing Stones is a well established saxophone ensemble, which has raised huge amounts of money for various charities (especially the Stroke Support Group) over the last few years. Its programme will include such wide ranging numbers as Foggy Day by Gershwin, Henry Mancini's Elephant Walk, the classic Bill Bailey and the Theme from The Muppets, plus Raiders of the Lost Ark, to name just a few!

As a delightful contrast, Rock of Ages is a four piece band of 'mature' gents, playing guitars, keyboard, harmonica and drums, who enjoy revisiting the music of their youth by playing a selection of numbers from the fifties and sixties, ranging from rock and roll to rhythm and blues. Each group promises a variety of music to appeal to all tastes and ages.

Folk are invited to bring a picnic, blanket or chair (ample cover in case of inclement weather) from about 1pm, with the Chantry bar being open until 2pm, when the programme of music will commence. Tickets are £6 or £5 for FACTs and Children, while Family Tickets are £20 (maximum 2 Adults & 3 Children). They are available at Thornbury Garden Shop in the High Street or by ringing 01454 416291, so do join us for a great afternoon!

For more information on ACT, please visit our website below and look out for news of ACT's next event, when a Ladies' Barbershop Choir: Fascinating Rhythm, plus talented Harpist and Singer: Tessa Sullivan, will appear at the Cossham Hall, 8 pm ~ Friday 10 October !
