Visitors flock to new Berkeley Event
The “Berkeley Skirmish”, the new Medieval event at Berkeley Castle, attracted just under 6,000 visitors to its first weekend, held on the Meadow in front of the 12th Century Castle.
Under blue skies, visitors enjoyed a “Rumbustious Medieval Romp” over two days, being entertained by Jousts, Cossack displays, medieval firepower demonstrations, living history camp and a climactic battle each day.

Jenner Museum welcomes artist
The Edward Jenner Museum now has a video artist in residence: Fiona Kam Meadley will record life at the museum, such as the recent archaeological dig, encourage young filmmakers in Berkeley, and do a "Ghosts in the Attic” video installation.
Museum Director Sarah Parker says “There's lots in the story of Edward Jenner to inspire young people today, to help them relate to the science of immunology, and video is a great medium to do this".

New fish supplier in Thornbury area
Powells of Olveston has just relaunched as a combined butcher and fishmonger. The new owners have spent their first year working closely with local farmers and Cornish fishermen to ensure their meat and fish is ethically sourced, local whenever possible, and always traceable.
All meat is hung for maximum maturity and taste, and fish is line-caught from sustainable stocks using small day boats, which means it's in the shop within 24 hours of being caught.
