Luv Esther Summer School
ngm's Caedmon Complex, Bristol Road, Thornbury

This week-long training course offers professional training from the Luv Esther cast and other ngm tutors as well as a chance to perform songs from Luv Esther. As well as arts training, Luv Esther Summer School also gives you a chance to be part of a passionate and creative community and develop your relationship with God through a dynamic mix of worship, teaching from the Bible and personal times with God. The week will end with an opportunity to perform what you've learnt to family and friends. Age 14-18 years.

Summer Reading Challenge for youngsters - Going for gold

The 2008 Summer Reading Challenge takes a sporting theme to encourage children to get active and get reading. So, don’t just sit there – get reading! Most events are free BUT please ask for a ticket in advance.

You will have a chance to learn skills and techniques and develop as an artist with training from ngm's artists and tutors. As with Luv Esther Summer School, Amplified also gives you a chance to be part of a passionate and creative community and develop your relationship with God through a dynamic mix of worship, teaching from the Bible and personal times with God. The week will end with an opportunity to perform what you've learnt to family and friends. Age 14-18 years.

Barbecue and Fun Day
2-6pm, Thornbury Cricket Club

All welcome: members and non-members, families and friends. Continuous soft ball cricket match, boules - anyone can play: children, mums and dads. Barbecue food, bar open in pavillion. Come any time between 2pm and 6pm.

Thornbury Food Fair

Come and join us at our September Food Market. Following the great success of the May Food Fair earlier this year, and to launch the 4th South Gloucestershire Local Food and Drink Festival, Castle Street and Thornbury Chamber of Commerce is set to host a September Food Market.

Bringing together the best of local producers with members of the popular Thursday Farmers markets and also stallholders from the highly successful Slow Food market in Bristol, the market will provide a wide range of fresh produce to suit all tastes.

There will be ample chance to sample stallholders’ wares and there will be hot food and refreshments available. Not only will it be a great place to stock up on great food, it is also a great chance to meet up with friends and neighbours for a chat and a cup of tea.

So come along and join us on Saturday September 13th, you’ll be amazed by all the wonderful things our area has to offer.

Dairy Farm Open Day - Guided Tours
11am-3pm, Tortworth Estate Dairy Farm, Tortworth Estate, Box Walk, Tortworth, Wotton-under-Edge

Guided tours every half hour (approx). Trailer rides to the dairy unit to see milking parlour, cows and calves. Learn about how your ‘pinta’ is produced. Parking at The Estate Shop, Tortworth. Directions: Signed to Damery off B4509, one mile from M5 Junction 14. Please bring suitable clothing / footwear (wellies!)

Food Heritage
12noon-4.30pm, Yate Heritage Centre, Church Road, Yate BS37 5BG

Promotion and demonstrations of traditional bread making, cheese making and cider brewing are all put into a historical context for this Heritage Open Weekend event, including a demonstration by Codrington Brewery. Displays and history talks included. Tea and cakes on sale at neighbouring St Mary’s Church from 2-4pm. Disabled access is available.

Meet dairy farmer Richard Cornock who, together with his brother Tom, keep a herd of cows on a farm near Thornbury. They sell their milk under the Tesco ‘Local Choice’ scheme which allows shoppers to buy milk produced in the area where they live. Understand more about the scheme and also see the various conservation projects and learn about the biodiversity benefits. Disabled access poor.

Free-range Pigs and Chicken Farm Open Day

Visit outdoor reared rare breed Gloucester Old Spot pigs, learn how they are kept and take pleasure in watching the piglets. Enjoy a pig roast and/or cream tea and have fun on the bouncy castle. There will be a chance to buy from the farm’s range of produce, as well as see their flock of free-range hens and buy their eggs.

Visit this successful local farmer and ice cream maker, have a look around the ice cream factory and listen to how it all came about. There will be a chance to look around part of the farm too. Farm Tour and Visit
Booking required for tours only, for the farm visit, just turn up. 2pm-5pm, Severn View Farm, Inglestone Common, Hawkesbury Upton, Tel: 01454 299236

Severn View Farm is a small, mixed farm with sheep, pigs, poultry and vegetables in the space of just 16 acres. The farm is wholly organic. The pigs are used to clean up, dig up and fertilise as they go in the vegetable plots, and there are 3 polytunnels to extend the cropping season. Friendly sheep are a feature of the farm – expect to be approached! Guided tours at 2.30pm and 3.30pm. Maximum 30 per tour. Please book on 01454 863592 for the tour only.
