<< previous edition: Feb 2008
next edition: Jul 2008 >>

Welcome to the eighth THORNBURY IN BLOOM Newsletter produced to keep you and everyone in Thornbury in touch with what is going on and how you can provide help and support. If you have received this on behalf of a group or Organisation please pass it on, display it on a notice board or read out its contents at your meetings. We want everyone in Thornbury to feel part of our campaign! For more information don’t forget to log on to our website www.thornburyinbloom.co.uk

We hope that everyone has enjoyed the magnificent displays of daffodils around the town this year the colour has been fantastic. A huge thank-you to all the volunteers who helped actually plant the bulbs in the autumn. We will be continuing with the planting programme this autumn- so if there is an area near you that is in need of cheering up, let us know. We have already had one request from a resident of Morton Way and where there are already many wild flowers growing we will be looking to plant the small natural daffodils rather than the big showy varieties. Did everyone notice the Snowdrops around the Welcome to Thornbury sign at the top of Thornbury/Alveston Hill?

Please don’t forget our major Fund Raising Event- The Annual Plant Sale on May 17th- outside the Town Hall. Please help us by donating plants on the day or bringing them into Thornbury Garden Shop during the week before. Please label your plants as well as possible with name, information and a suggested price- as the helpers on the stall may be rather busy that morning! If you don’t know the proper name- give us the common name and a clue e.g.: Blue Flowers in spring or Grows to 6’ and has orange flowers in late summer etc, etc! Don’t forget to come and buy something too!!!

We have had a fantastic response to sponsors for hanging baskets- look out for the dedication plaques in the summer.

We have ordered two new heavyweight classy planters for the High Street- and if these prove popular we will be looking to upgrade all our containers as and when funds allow.

For those wanting to give practical help we would like to have working parties out in advance of Judging week this year and if any organisation would be able to lend a hand with weeding and tidying areas of the town please let me know and we can start getting a plan of action together.

Look out soon for entry forms for the Local competitions as we have some good prizes this year. Park Insurance Services are donating £500 in total to be awarded to various different categories as prizes- so don’t miss out on a share! We are very grateful to PARK INSURANCE SERVICES for their generous support.

Happy Gardening!

From Sue Aitken and all the Thornbury in Bloom committee.
